How we use it
We use this information to create and secure accounts, provide vehicle checks and reports, process wallet payments and invoices, send service messages, understand general website usage, improve reliability, provide support, prevent misuse, maintain accurate financial records, and meet legal obligations.
Vehicle information and other providers
When you request a check, we use the registration and country you submit to obtain available vehicle information from relevant registries and data providers and to prepare your report. Vehicle records can sometimes relate to an identifiable person. Please only submit a registration when you have a lawful reason to request the check. Information may be incomplete, delayed or inaccurate; see our Terms.
Legal bases
Where UK or EU data-protection law applies, we generally process account, payment and report information because it is needed to provide the service you request and perform our contract with you. We process limited technical and analytics information for our legitimate interests in securing, maintaining and understanding use of the service, balanced against your rights. We may process records to comply with legal obligations, and rely on consent where we ask for it for a specific purpose.
Who receives information
We share only what is needed with service providers that help us host and secure the website, measure website usage through Rybbit Analytics, process payments, deliver emails, and obtain or prepare vehicle information. Stripe processes payment information under its own terms and privacy notice. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or in connection with a transfer of the business. We do not sell personal information.
Some service providers may process information outside the UK or European Economic Area. Where data-protection law requires it, we use an appropriate transfer safeguard.
How long we keep information
We keep account, report and transaction records for as long as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, protect the service and meet accounting or other legal requirements. Analytics information is retained according to the retention settings of our analytics system. Retention periods depend on the type of record. We securely delete or anonymise information when it is no longer needed, subject to records we must keep.
Cookies and analytics
We use a first-party session cookie to keep you signed in and protect your account. The website also uses temporary browser session storage to remember a vehicle lookup while you sign in. These are used for requested service functions. We use Rybbit Analytics to measure visits and general website usage. Its tracker is designed to work without analytics cookies; it may process network and browser information, including an IP address and user agent, to produce pseudonymous visit statistics. Stripe may use its own technologies when you visit its payment page; see Stripe’s privacy information for details.
Your choices and rights
Depending on your location and the applicable law, you may have the right to request access to, correction or deletion of your personal information, restriction of or objection to certain processing, or a portable copy. If processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it. Contact [email protected] to make a request. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information where the law requires or permits it.
You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or, if you are in Ireland or another EU country, your local data-protection authority. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when our service or legal obligations change. The current version and its update date will appear on this page. Questions or privacy requests: [email protected].
