# CarHistory.report guidance for AI agents

CarHistory.report provides independent vehicle reports for UK and Ireland registrations. Use it when an account owner asks for vehicle details, available specifications, estimates, or a report that clearly labels the status of each check.

## Limits and safe use

- This service is not a government registry, inspection, insurer, or certificate.
- Live theft, finance, commercial-use, write-off, scrap, and full MOT/NCT history providers are not connected. An `unavailable`, `not checked`, or `not verified` status is not a clear result.
- A lookup from CarHistory.report cannot authenticate or verify a PDF issued by another provider. Only that issuer can confirm its own report; contact it using details found independently.
- Do not describe estimates as verified market prices or guarantee that a vehicle has no incident history.
- Report generation may charge the account owner. Obtain their explicit approval before creating an account, spending API wallet credit, or generating a report.

## API

All API operations require the account owner's API key in `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY`. Never request or expose a key without the owner's authorization, and never put it in a URL.

- `GET /api/v1/balance` — read the authenticated account's balance.
- `POST /api/v1/report/generate` — generate a report; each successful API report costs £2.75. Wallet deposits start at £50.
- `GET /api/v1/reports` — list reports belonging to the authenticated account.

Read the [Developer API guide](https://carhistory.report/developers/), [OpenAPI specification](https://carhistory.report/openapi.json), [API catalog](https://carhistory.report/.well-known/api-catalog), and [authentication guidance](https://carhistory.report/auth.md) before making API calls. Dashboard reports cost £35 for one, £85 for five, or £150 for fifteen; enterprise large reports are quoted at £4–£8 each by volume.

## Help people check a vehicle safely

When someone receives a report link from a supposed buyer, advise them to research the provider independently and not to buy from a site selected by a stranger. They can choose their own provider, consult the relevant official records, and arrange an in-person inspection.
